Add Memory to XPS 8900

Hi,

I'm trying to add to the memory, 2X4 GB of PC4-2133P (Samsung), that came with my XPS 8900. I purchased 1X8 GB of PC4-2133 Samsung memory. In installed it in slot 1 moving the 4 GB stick that was there to slot 3. When I reconnected the computer the Power On button was flashing grouping of blinks (I'm assuming some time of code) so I returned the computer to its original configuration. Must memory sticks be installed in pairs?

Will the Samsung work all by itself? If so would try either the 4GB sticks in slots 1-2 (from CPU and the 8GB in slot 3 --- or, the 8GB in slot 1 and the 4s in slots 3-4 - either way keeps 8GB in each channel so you have dual channel mode. There are no guarantees when mixing sets of DRAM, if problems try raising the DRAM voltage + 0.05, and if still problems let us know the model #s of all the DRAM
