[Solved] I ended up borrowing an optical drive and burning an install disk.

Hello all,

I created a Windows 7 ultimate bootable USB using Rufus and no matter what I try, I keep getting the "CD/DVD device driver missing" error. The bootable USB is fine, a friend tried it on his PC and got to the license agreement (which is the step I can't reach). I even tried using his external cd drive to install vista, just to see what would happen, and received the same error.

The BIOS on my motherboard is missing a bunch of options that people have suggested, like turning off USB 3.0 ports and switching from Legacy AHCI to Native AHCI. This is what it looks like: http://thepcenthusiast.com/gigabyte-x99-ud3p-motherboard-review/3/

Install also failed after creating a partition formatted to NTFS per these instructions: http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/how-to-do-a-clean-install-of-windows-7-8

Onto a second USB, I downloaded a USB Windows Install Utility from here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5589#utility
But after receiving the error and selecting Browse, I was unable to see the second USB. I even tried to put this onto the Win7 bootable USB, but still couldn't navigate to it. I know that this didn't corrupt the installer, however, because my buddy tried installing on his machine after I had done this and this is when he was able to reach the license agreement. I have tried this on every USB port I have.

Please help!

I tried to package the drivers together with the installer using this: http://codeabitwiser.com/2014/03/how-to-install-windows-7-with-only-usb-3-0-ports/
But that didn't work. There were no options related to backwards compatibility or to the USB 3 ports, in general, in the BIOS. I ended up contacting a friend who had a spare optical drive and install disk and bypassed USB altogether.

Good suggestion. I would...

You must load usb 3 drivers first then proceed with the installation since windows 7 is not a usb 3 ready os. You can try enabling backward compatibility and legacy in the bios to may be help by pass loading usb 3 drivers.

Good suggestion. I would have thought that my saying "no matter what I try, I keep getting the 'CD/DVD device driver missing' error" and then detailing numerous attempted-but-failed workarounds would have made it painfully clear that I had done a search, many in fact, and posted here as a last resort. Guess not....

Mind telling me what you do it fox this issue? I'm currently having the same issue and it's really bugging me.
I can't play on my newly built gaming PC and it's just a overall bad experience.

Did you read the thread? It mentions several times that I borrowed a friend's optical drive and installed from a disk. The USB never worked. A couple of people made some other suggestions in another forum in which I posted my problem. You might try those:
