Hi all!

So I will preface by saying I've looked over the sticky about booting issues - it was helpful for many issues leading up to this.

I've found that my new system doesn't want to boot from USB. Even when I change the BIOS setting to select my UEFI USB as the primary boot device, it tells me "No boot device..." or leaves me with a black screen and blinking cursor.

I've been preparing the USBs (I've tried two with both the following methods) on Mac OSX El Capitan by using the command line diskutil (sudo dd and stuff) as well as the Bootcamp Assistant. The former has the system telling me "No boot device" while the latter does the black screen. The .img -> .iso file is legitimate - my university supplied Windows 7 Ultimate Student Edition.

I've scoured the internet, and tinkered with the BIOS "legacy vs UEFI" stiff, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?

Build:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4590
MOBO: Gigabyte Z97N Wifi
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 8gb (2x4)
PSU: Corsair CX 600B
GPU: Not currently installed, to minimize conflicts

Edit: I've used a ton of USB slots - The 2.0 and case front panel 3.0 are the most reliable for actually seeing the disk, but the problem persists.

Solution
For using win7, do you use the back panel USB2.0 ports? You can't use the USB3.0 because there is not driver for the USB3.0, they don't work at all.
For the OSX, do you set the storage mode in ahci? because the OSX only works on the ahci mode.
If you did do those, and just like you said the MB does not like to boot from the USB. And may try RAM the MB.
