I have an alienware aurora r4 2013 edition running a mobo with the lga 2011 socket therefore requiring mobo's that cost a pretty penny...I ordered a replacement alienware mobo 210~$$ what im trying to figure out is will i need to re-install windows on the pc because i do not have the disc to reinstall it so i need to know asap what i should do i still have the old hdd that all my info is on its literally just a matter of me replacing the board to a brand new mobo of the same type ( only 2 makes of this board from dell are available and both are identical besides the model numbers) so any clarification would be very helpful thanks!

**my cpu is i7 4820k 3.7ghz and i have a 2tb hdd holding all my data + bootup

Solution
A change of motherboard usually requires a Windows re-install but since you don't have an installation disc and the old/new motherboards are very similar, try existing Windows installation first. You may just get lucky & all you'll have to do then is re-activate it.

But if Windows won't start, keeps crashing or giving BSODS etc, you'll have to re-install.
