I just got a refurbished Dell Optiplex 790 4 days ago, I added a Geforce GTX 750Ti SC, 4 more gb of RAM, and an evga 600B PSU

I run windows7 64-bit, and have an Intel i5-2400 @ 3.1ghz

I downloaded a program called Speedfan to monitor the temps in my computer because my computer crashed and restarted last night, I think it overheated.

I took off my CPU heatsink and noticed the thermal paste was chalky and dried up, so i cleaned it all off and added some brand new Arctic brand paste

Even after the new paste was applied, speedfan is giving all 4 cores on my CPU a reading of 50-59 degrees celcius, and it has a fire emblem next to each number
obviously that is going to scare me because when i see a fire emblem i think danger
is 50-60 celcius too hot? Should i address this?

http://postimage.org/

I opened bioshock 2, and less than 2 minutes of it being open (still at the main menu) my CPU goes from 35 celcius to 55 celcius

I don't understand why it would be getting so hot considering its a fairly new PC, and I haven't added much in there to bump the temps up to a dangerous level

It's called loading up the CPU when gaming. Happens to everyone, even those of us with custom liquid cooling loops. Working as intended.

When gaming, you want to stay below 65°C or so for CPU temps. You're clearly below that, so there is nothing to worry about.

The stock coolers on computers like that tend to not cool very well compared to aftermarket coolers. They go with the cheapest solution. Even considering that, your temps are fine.

Cool thanks Leaps-from-shadows.
I am thinking of buying a new heatsink and cooling fan just for optimization, but i cant seem to find any compatible with my motherboard
i have the 0hy9jp
can one of you steer me in the right direction of one that would fit in a 5 pin connector? or maybe plug directly from the PSU

Download CPU-Z and Speccy.
1- Open CPU-Z 64 and Speccy 64
2- Go to the "Bench" tab in CPU-Z
3- Click on "Stress CPU"
4- Go to the "CPU" tab on Speccy
5- Let the Stress test running about 15-30 minutes.
6- Check the CPU temps on Speccy, if the cores go more than 70°, yes, your CPU is getting a little hot. If it stays arround 60-65° it is ok.
Try it and post what you get.

Thank you for the help, but I just finished soldering 4 pins into a 5 pin casing that now fits my motherboard, Got a top notch heatsink and wonderful fan! My temps are staying ~45c with more than 4 games open!
