Hi

I currently have i5 2500 3ghz with Gigabyte 6850. I am thinking of buying a whole new system (skylake i7) but may not buy a GPU with it. It will however come with a intel hd 530 on board.

the question I have is:

is the newer on board intel better than my Gigabyte Radeon 6850?
if not, will this increase the performance of my new i7 if I move the 6850 in the new machine or will it downgrade it since its such an old card?

the reason for new pc is that my son will require a computer soon and I will give him the old i5 (which technically still good on win10)

thanks!

Solution
The Gigabyte Radeon 6850 would destroy Intel integrated graphics.

The Gigabyte uses it own onboard memory that is very fast. Where the Integrated graphics uses your RAM. And Compared to VRAM regular ram is quite slow.

I would think so.

You will have the opportunity to see how integrated goes, and even test with the 6850 if you think it can do better.
Do make certain that your new build uses two sticks of ram so you get faster operation for integrated graphics.
