My Computer Turns Itself On - Windows 8

So, I headed out tonight and shut off my HP computer that is running Windows 8. I am certain it was off because I pushed the power button and did it manually.

I came back home and my computer was on?

1. Why is it doing this?
2. How to tell if it's been hacked? Are there certain logs I can view?
3. If this is just some "normal" function for my HP with Windows 8, how do I stop it??

Did you shut it down or just put it to sleep?
Pressing the power button once most likely only puts it to sleep, and moving the mouse (or the mouse being wireless), or pressing keys, or getting internet traffic can wake it up.
If you do Start > Shutdown, or hold down the power button for about 5-7 seconds will actually power off the PC.

Hello. Thanks everyone for your answers but I am not done yet.

Regarding geofelt's answer above - It's not enough details for me to execute as a solution. I need specific steps to follow as I am not a Computer Wizard.

Any further assistance would be appreciated.
