So, I've built my computer and I like to play CS:GO so i go on there and I see i'm only getting 60 FPS. Which is what I get on my laptop which is really bad. I know I can get more FPS so could someone please help me out. I have tried editing the config.cfg and adding fps_max 500 and I've put the same command in the console.

As always than you to everyone who helps me. You guys are awesome.

Hi, usually on a 60hz monitor you wont get above 60 fps if vsync is on in the CsGo settings. Even if the game shows 120 fps, your monitor will actually be displaying 60 fps max since its the limit of a 60hz monitor. You must use a 120-144 hz monitor to see 60+ fps.

However if you are already using a 120hz or 144hz monitor, chances are your game is running at 60hz. You need to run the game at 120 or 144 hz through the nvidia control panel. This would solve the problem.

If possible, let me know you PC and monitor specs.

yeah thanks for the reply. I'm using a R9 390 with a i5-6600. I am positive that my monitor only runs at 60hz but that doesn't stop the game from showing a higher FPS? or does the 60hz monitor stop the game from even displaying any higher. if that's true then how do people get like 400 + FPS on CS? There isnt like 400hz monitors right?

cs go sends and receives a maximum of 128 packets so the optimum fps for the game is 128
assuming the server admin hasnt limited it server side to less.

so open the console and type fps_max 128

cl_interp "0" this will set the game bandwidth to match the servers.

cl_cmdrate "128"
cl_updaterate "128" sets the packet data count to and from the server.

lastly make sure vsync is off in both game and your gpu control pannel.

i know this isnt the same info you will find elsewhere saying max out your fps.
they are mistaken.
for online fps no matter what the game you set your fps to match the max data packets the server sends and you will have a much smoother, more accurate game.

bump the fps up to 400 (fps_max 0) and i guarantee you will not see any benefit over (fps max 128) and any 1 who tells you different dosent understand how online gaming works.

as you have a 60hz screen the optimum for you will be 60 or 120 packets, so 60 or 120 fps for the max fps.

personally i would choose the 60 packets 60 fps option as it will give the optimum for your screen refresh and allow you to enable vsync to eliminate tearing for the best visual quality as well as accurately updated frame data. but only choose the 60 fps option if your not suffering input lag or packet loss. if you are use the 120 fps settings.

You actually have a PC powerful enough to run CS GO at even 200-300 FPS. But if you have turned Vsync on in the games graphics settings to double buffer or triple buffer, your graphics card optimizes the game to synchronize with your monitor's frames. What I mean is in a 60hz monitor, the monitor displays 60 frames per second no matter what (unless you change to refresh rate of the monitor to something other than 60 hz). So if a game runs at lets say, 125 FPS, the frames are just thrown towards the monitor by your graphics card. And your monitor shows those 125 frames without even synchronizing it with its 60 frames. Due to this, some frames appear kinda broken since your monitor sometimes displays two frames of the game in a single frame and this leads to screen tearing. Vsync eliminates that. When Vsync is turned on (double buffer or triple buffer), your graphics now produces the frames matching it with your monitor's frame displaying capability, which is 60 FPS in your situation. So it reduces the game to 60 FPS to provide a smoother gameplay. Trust me, if your game is running at 100 FPS without Vsync turned on, the gameplay will be a little not so smooth (or choppier) than when Vsync is turned on.

Turn off Vsync and you will definitely get 200+ FPS. But your eyes will still receive only 60 frames per second since its your monitor's max capacity. But your in game benchmarks will show higher FPS (like 200 or 300 FPS). Those who are getting 400 FPS have disabled Vsync.

However you can still run your games at 120-144 FPS (real 120-144 FPS) through Amd Freesync without getting choppier images (screen tearing). But you need to buy an AMD freesync monitor. A good monitor I can recommend is " AOC G2770PF ". Through AMD freesync your eyes will receive real 144 FPS images which is a lot lot smoother than 60 hz monitor.
