Hey all, i'm planning to upgrade my ram to 32gb with 8gig sticks in all 4 ram slots, the problem is as far as i've researched the 1155 sandybridge has a max rating of 1.5v for dram, the kit I want g.skill F3-2133C10Q-32GXM has a rating of 1.6v. I've seen conflicting information that its save for a 2600k to run at 1.6v while other don't recommend it however more people are saying its safe, the only problem is that the people saying that its safe are referring to only 2 dimms being populated.

tl;dr is it safe for 2600k to run all 4 dimm slots of ram at 1.6v even though sandybridge IMC is rated for 1.5v?

If it helps my motherboard is z77a-gd45

As said, 1.65 is perfectly safe, 1.5 is simply the suggested spec for 1600 sticks at stock, Intel has long listed DRAM certified for 'gaming' as they call it of which the majorit is 1.6-1.65 sets and up to (I believe) it's 2800 for SB/IB
Yes it was. Some of them had four-stick RAM kits that wouldn't boot unless they increased the RAM voltage to 1.65v.

It's "safe" in that it won't kill your CPU outright. But it will shorten its life. You may "only" get six or seven years out of it, instead of the 10 years it was designed for.

I don't plan on overclocking the cpu as i'm not into it, It mainly comes down to this, why would memory specifications kill the cpu or shorten its lifespan?

No. CPUs are designed to last 10 years, and overclocking/over-volting at that level might take two or three years off of that life span. That's a guesstimation of course -- there's no real way of telling. But it's not much of an overclock or over-voltage, so it makes sense that it shouldn't take that much off.

Alright thanks, I plan on going to skylake soon anyways since the cpu hierarchy chart says now sandybridge upgraders should now see a significant difference in computing power and I want the new features z170 has to offer.
