I got a thermaltake tr2 700w 80+gold and a 3770k cpu oc with an antec cooler on it.Will R9 390 nitro have any problems with this psu?Company suggests a 750w psw...dont really wanna spend more money buying a psu incase i may have issues. Is it really risky?should i skip over it and buy a gtx970?

My rig http://

If you are running on 1080p the nGTX 970 is your better choice. If not then you can run it, 700W is enough and you need 1x6pin 1x8pin and your psu has it it won't be a problem (since your CPU is not with that high power usage), but still best not to risk it, consider the r9 390 only if you are playing on 1440p.

Not planning upgrading anytime soon the new GPU and most of the charts seem to favour the R9 over the 970 even on 1080p 390 seems to be running better..Although i dont wanna take any risk on this.

The 390 is 3-4 fps MAX ahead in 1080p gaming by trading in heat, noise and power consumption.

still for future gaming its claimmed to be better since the 8gigs vram and i guess ill keep the card for like 3-5 years.I would go for the 970 only in case R9 390 cant fit the rig cause of the psu and ill put the gpu in harm.

By the time games start to really require more than 4 gigs of VRAM your whole card will need changing since it wont be able to utilize those 8GB VRAM to the max for games. So the 8GB>4GB is really REALLY not a valid argument. Yes it is better at 1440p or even 4K than the 970, but at 1080p they are nearly identical, you either get the 390 for SLIGHTLY better performance or you get the 970 for less power consumption, better overclock-ability and less noise.

it will be at harm only if you are getting bsods or random shutdowns, which you wont know unless you try.

based on amps that will handle a 390 just fine. people read reviews where they use a 5860x or whatever with a 390. My OC'd pulls about 280w max gaming at 1440 pegged. I am not saying the 970 isn't the best choice, but the 390 handles 1080 just as well and an MSI or Sapphire version with good cooling has it running as cool as a 970.

OP: Go for which you prefer (in uk 390 is much better VFM at the moment), but the 970 will do you fine.
