Hello.

I have bought a wireless IP Camera and i've set it up - everything is working as expected.

I can connect to it via 4g on my mobile phone and over the local wireless network.

Due to privacy concerns i only want the camera to be able to stream over my local network. When i block internet access in the router options the camera shows 'offline' in the android app.

Can anyone help me ?

Check the settings of the Android App. It's likely been designed to default to viewing over the Internet as most people are not on their home network when using the App. You will likely need to contact the developers of the App.

Hi Wolf,

There is no setting in the android app which relate to disabling the internet just the DHCP / gateway settings. If i change them settings i cannot connect to the camera at all as the camera doesnt seem to have its own 'admin' portal by logging into it via the IP address. Am i right to assume if i cannot log into it via an admin ip then it will be impossible to view it via lan only? - its a webcam for my newborns and i dont want other people logging into the camera remotely online.

Is your phone on the local network or in 4G? The only way you'd see the camera image if you disable internet access on the router for the camera is if you connect the phone to the local network on WiFi. Even then you need to check with the program you are using to see how it will work.

Sorry. I missed it before. If you're connecting over 4G, your phone is connecting your your Cell Phone's network and then attempting to connect to your internal network through the router's external port. When you turn off Internet Access, you're saying no one from outside can connect.

Instead of connecting over your 4G network, you'll want your mobile phone to connect to your local wireless network.

Hi,

I've tested my phone on the local network (wifi) and the 4g network (diabling wifi) - both can view the ip camera - the way it is supposed to work.

I want to make the webcam only accessible via the local network (Not 4g or over the internet) - hope that makes sense?

What you should be able to do is leave the gateway address blank in the cameras....assuming you can manually set the ip. If it would not let you leave it blank just set it to some unused lan address.

The gateway is how it gets out of your lan. If it has no gateway or it does not go to your router then the camera has no way to talk to any device other than something on your lan.

Hi, thanks for the reply

If i remove the gateway on the webcam settings, the app on the android device cannot connect to the camera, its 'offline' which actually makes sense as the app is trying to connect to it via the internet.

I guess the question i should be asking is how do i connect to the ip camera locally? i.e. is there any software which i can download which will work with the firmware of the device to gain access? i have a username/password for the camera, but typing in the IP doesnt bring up a traditional long in area.
