Hi

I have an old PC core 2 duo with G31 ASUS motherboard which had seagate hard disk , suddenly it stopped detecting HDD but I checked it in other PC and it was working fine ,I had spare HDD of western digital so I fitted it in PC and it started working , but slowly with time the PC was becoming slow .One day I decided to check old HDD again so I removed it and then the PC stopped detecting both HDDs . I checked both in other PC and they are working fine . I further Decided to check so I removed laptop HDD and fixed it in PC . to my surprsie the pc is detecting it well ..Is it problem of motherboard or Hard disks . Both seagate and western digital hard disks are working fine in other PC but not detected in core 2 duo and laptop HDD is detected in core 2 duo

Please help me to confirm that is it really motherboard problem?

This motherboard was faulty few months back and I got it repaired from a shop

O.K so I am not having problem from past 3 days. I almost gave up and ordered motherboard but after the adivce of my brother I changed the SMPS and it solved my problem like miracle . The WD hard disk is also not running well in other pc but the orginal seagate 1 is working very well now. I cancelled the motherboard and running my PC well
Hey there, Kds1980.

I'd suggest that you backup the data from those drives, just to be on the safe side. After that, go ahead and download their respective manufacturers' diagnostic tools so that you can test them and see if anything unusual pops-up. Here's the tool for the WD Drive (Data Lifeguard) and here's how to test your drive with it: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows and you should be able to find the Seagate drive's tool on their website as well.
Other than that, you could try updating or resetting that computer's BIOS, to see if that fixes things up. Try different cables as well, because if this one's faulty it might work sometimes and if put in a different position it might be losing connection. Also try out different SATA ports as well to see if the issue persists.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Thanks for answer I have conducted basic tests on seagate drive and they are all O.K
I have tried all sata ports but result is same
and I have tried different cables but the result is same

Well if the drives are all OK and you're having such issues with different ports and cables, unfortunately it sounds like the the motherboard is at fault here. So you could try the suggestions from my previous post to reset or update the BIOS and see if the drives are properly recognized afterwards, or you might take the PC to a computer service shop, so that the guys there can run some diagnostic tests and hopefully fix the problem.

Please keep me updated.
