New PC build hhd question

Doing a new PC build, but I have an old 1tb HDD that I want to keep. I am buying a ssd, and want to run my OS on my ssd, and wipe the partitions on my old HDD. How would I do that on my build process? Can I have both plugged in on boot, and write the OS on the ssd and delete the HDD simultaneously?

you will be perfectly fine, for the old HDD, I would recommend low level format as it completely wipes all data from drive (it's not the same as regular format and requires software, so look up your HDD brand and find the right software for it on web)

as for SSD, just select in bios following boot order:
1. DVD
2. SSD
3. HDD
