which is better? 4gb DDR3 or 1gb DDR5 graphics card?

I believe so, while GDDR5 is better than DDR3, the ddr3 ram has a larger memory bus & more ram

Edit:

I'm wrong, sorry

you try it this video card?

http://www.back2gaming.com/reviews/zotac-gt-730-1gb-64bit-gddr5-review/

Look at the table half way down the review , I actually underestimated , its close to twice as powerful.
Its nvidia's fault with their naming conventions in all honesty.

The 730 ddr3 128bit has 96 cuda cores, the ddr5 64bit has 4x (384) as well as 40% more memory bandwidth - they're essentially completely different cards , they have nothing in common at all.

@kandur, what are the prices for these two cards that you're referring to? What is your budget? What resolution are you playing? Which games? What country do you live in? What are the rest of your specs? I apologize for throwing so many questions your way but I honestly just want to help you. One last thing, in addition to your system specs, what is your old graphics card?

KLawinger - not your fault in all honesty, its nvidia's for naming 2 completely different cards 'gt 730' , & then stating the ddr3 model as a 128 bit card (although it is) - if it had the same amount of rendering units as the gddr5 it would be s viable comparison but it doesn't .

You're not the first to be duped & you honestly won't be the last.

So just to clarify in case i see this question again down the line

The main difference between drr3 and gddr3/5 when used in graphics cards is just that gddr3/5 is application specific? while ddr3 being used on a gpu is just unspecific and somewhat unoptimized? Aside from the huge differences in memory bandwith and speeds.

for gaming ddr3 now is not fast enough irregardless of card spec/model,memory bandwidth counts big time nowdays.
As a general desktop card ddr3 is fine, just not for any kind of 3d gaming.

Nvidia were pretty scummy with those gt 730 models, many many people were tricked the same as you there by that 4gb of vram, calling a card the same model name with only 1/4 of the cuda cores though is bad imo.
AMD did similar a few years back with the 6670, & they tricked me personally with that one.

Understood. 20 000 - 25 000 Hungarian Forint equals $72 - 90 US dollars. Also a major factor is that computer components are apparently more expensive than where I live in the United States. For example: A MSI N750Ti-2GD5 on Argep.hu is 38 215 Ft. Are you open to the possibility of purchasing a used 750 Ti? I just think you'll get more performance for your money, if there is a reputable online marketplace for you to buy from.

4GB is better than 1GB. That goes without saying but having used iMacs with both of these I did NOT find the 4TB "significantly" better. It also depends on what you are using the IMac for. Video and 3D rendering would warrant the better card. I use the iMac to edit photos not video and in that case the 4GB is better.... Yes... significantly? No

More video ram is not automatically better. The GDDR5 card with 1 gig of memory is faster than the DDR3 card with 4 gig (you needed to have read the post a bit), and the low end card won't be able to use that much memory anyway. Only time more RAM = better is if you are comparing exact same things. GT 730 DDR3 and GDDR5 not only have different RAM they also have different core specs.

I also don't see anything in the original post about an iMac.
