will my new card fit?

i dont know what my mother bored is and dont know if it even matters but i have a radion HD6900 and i want to get a gtx980 and i want to know if they will fit not in the case but like be able to plug it up so i can use the new card on my current bored

Well, as long as your card have a PCIe slot you can use a GTX 980 on it.
About the case it'll most likely fit. All the cards tend to have the same size so you should be just fine.

Just one thing: if your CPU is really old and outdated you may experience some bottleneck.
Also don't forget to check if your PSU can deliver enough power to the system with the new card.

As to the OP, you need to determine what Motherboard you have and confirm that it has the appropriate slot.

However, since you have identified that toy have a card plugged in now w/ a PCI Express 2.1 x16 slot, you will be OK. That's about equivalent to a PCIE 3.0 x8 and cards are backwards compatible,
