A 390 looks set to outclass the 970 at dx12. It could well trade blows with a 980.\

At the moment a 970 and 390 trade blows in dx11 games.

As for PSU requirements, I am not sure about the 650W requirement. If you look at the charts they often overstate the requirement and as long as the PSU is high quality you can get away with a lot less.

I am guessing they state the PSU requirements too high on these charts to accommodate low quality PSUs and also putting in a bit of error so they are sure they don't make a mistake in recommendations. For example a 390x crossfire was shown in tests to require no more than 805W total system draw. The stated recommendation is 1100W. It's possible that over many months you might hit over 805W but clearly there is a massive discrepancy between 1100W recommended in the PSU charts and the actual real world requirements.

Not necessarily. Amd will be faster if the said game use async compute. But async compute is just one of DX12 feature (and not even a must have feature to have just so the program can run DX12; similar to DX11 tessellation where the game can still run in DX11 even without using tessellation). There is still other DX12 feature like FL12_1 and AMD does not the hardware required in for this feature. In theory it still can be done on software but we all know how it goes with nvidia when they does not something similar to AMD ACE in their hardware. And game developer like codemaster ans avalanche (just csuse 3) already talkinh abouy usinh this feature. So before got more info AMD not necessarily ahead of nvidia in dx12.

Indeed. People will always defend their component choices. Fact is, once DX12 really is mainstream and used, the 970 and 390 will probably be needing an upgrade anyway. I am happy for another year or so of decent 1080p maxed gaming, then ill readily upgrade :)
