Hey Friends,
My boy has a PC with integrated video and he likes to game. I don't want to buy a new PC, his is only a few years old and he only uses it for watching Youtube and gaming, (he is only 10) what can I do to make his gaming experience the best it can be without a new PC.? Can I get him a better video card or is the 2.80 ghz too weak for more? To be clear, he's into games like Minecraft, not the super-high graphics games like the war games etc. He just gets frustrated when the simple games are "rendering". Here are the full specs of his PC
HP P6803W
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
AMD Anthalon II X2 220 Processor (2 CPU’s) 2.80 ghz
Memory 4 GB
Page File 3858 mb used 3817 available
Video ATI Radeon HD 4200
(total memory 1916 mb)
Thanks much

the machine looks to have a 250w internal ATX (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 inches) That will need to be upgraded but the case seems to have enough room to do that. 4GB of RAM might need to be upgraded and the Processor can as well. But Bare minimums are the PSU and GPU, your machine has a pcie x16 slot for a GPU so good. I gave you the dimensions of the PSU maybe a supernova 550w from EVGA could help? It's a little harder to get a psu with those dimensions but I will do some looking around.

I hate to ask, but can you list what I need in order 1) This video card 2) This pcie etc. Not to worry about installs, I'm very handy with electronics, down to soldering pcb's. Thanks much..If it gets over a couple of hundred, wouldn't simply buying a decent pre-owned PC be a better option/

This the GPU that you can use:

THe only other thing you need to buy is the PSU:

If you have zip ties for cable management then you're all set. A lot of people hate to manage the cables of their machine but it is my favorite thing in building a PC. Like I said replacing a power supply is the most annoying of all things because you have to remove every cord and be grounded while installing it. If you want a good recommendation then make a recovery media using an 8-16 gig flash drive before hand and zip tie it inside your machine while building it so you won't lose it. backing up your data is also not a bad choice as well.

Over clocking, changing the herz of frecuency from the CPU.

Note: You can go for a trusted PSU if you want, the pro about going for 750Ti, that card doesn't requires PCI-E external cables.

It would burn the PSU if the PSU is only 250w, no? If not you're ruuning it pretty sketchy or at least not safely. but if it can work on a 250w then you would be fine and it would run minecraft pretty well. (if that sounds mean it's not meant to be)

I've been looking for a good Antec or SeaSonic PSU with those dimensions. I'd rather those 2 or at least an EVGA. I have found this one but it seems to be 10mms bigger on two sides. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151097
