i seen a cord thats what i needed. its on amazon or somewhere. i 4got about it because i figured since it saud "hdmi to vga" that its for viewing the tv on my p[c. instead of not saying "vga to hdmi" i figured it wasnt for me to view my pc on my tv. that IS right aint it?

question 2 while im at it:
i heard from someones answer on yahoo answers that in order to view my pc screen on my lcd tv id need a converter box between the 2 ends of the cable to make it from whatever translation vga is to whatever translation hdmi is.

well i found , on amazon, 2 cords that have the vga on 1 end. and hdmi on the one end of the 2nd cord. and in the meeting middle the 15 pin female to 15 pin male with the screws there too that dont screw into anything.

of course the person on yahoo answers also said "..... but the view on the 2 screens might be a little messed up. but you should be ok". im fine with it actually.

so, why did i need a converter box anyway?

I had a very difficult time reading your post BTW. Please keep the questions specific and straight forward.

So...
You want to use the VGA output of your computer, and connect to the HDMI input of your HDTV?

*You would need an ADAPTER to do that which is powered and used an ADC. Nor would you have any audio capability. The VGA signal is just a varying analog voltage. So, YES, you would need a CONVERTER box but again you'd still have no audio unless it could merge a separate audio input. It's too expensive and there are easier methods.

So I have no idea what's up with those cables you refer to.

What do you ACTUALLY need?

*Any graphics card with HDMI output (or iGPU via motherboard).
It depends what you're trying to do however. For...

It depends what you're trying to do however. For just playing VIDEO then buy an inexpensive card (see pcpartpicker) for about $30 or so that has HDMI output.

You'd then have to install the video drivers, and switch the audio "playback device" in Windows to HDMI.

You need a converter box because VGA is an ANALOG signal, while HDMI is a purely DIGITAL signal. Without an active converter with the appropriate circuitry (an analog -> digital or digital -> analog DAC) the communication of data between the computer and television will be completely incomprehensible.

It would be like having a conversation between a Chinese person and an American with no translator in between. It's just not gonna work right.
