OK I have to admit this is the first actual CPU I Have seen :-/
I checked off my inventory when it arrived on Saturday , no dented boxes etc.
About to install the motherboard, with good lights I thought I saw a scratch on the face of the CPU , or is this a protective cover on the CPU? Looks like the heatsink surface to me.

Sure there is the possibility that the scatch is on the underside of the clear plastic package.
My questions Before breaking the security seal are:-
1. Do Xeon CPUs come with scratches? - seems odd we are asked to go to no end of trouble to fill in nano surface marks, with thermal grease and yet produce scratched surfaces?
2. Is the metal surface with writing on it actually the heatsink surface the cooler goes on? Or is it a clip off protective cover?
( sorry but all the Utube videos Imsaw had no writing on the cpu heatsinks. But then they were not generally xeons.
3. If its scratched should it ne replaced or does it not matter?, note the left edge. Almost looks like a corner crease .
4 would you speak to your supplier about this before breaking the security seal etc. The box otherwise is in perfect condition not sign of even the slightest denting.
5. I do have to say the package designer definitiely get the "dumb ass of the decade for this one" .
£490 with no protection at all! And they even cut a window to allow access to damage the product.
Weird as the Intel SSD is totally protected and double boxed in cardboard 5x thicker than this! And that costs £220. Brainless.
