I have the option to get a GTX 980 Gigabyte G1 Gaming for $350. I was originally going to wait for Pascal to upgrade from my GTX 650 so I can move to 1440p/4k gaming (I'm going triple 1440p monitors for racing games and am going to use the single monitor for games where surround is poorly supported.) Is it worth getting the 980 and maybe grabbing a second one when pascal is released from people dumping them, or should I just wait for Pascal to be released and grab the 1080 (or whatever it's called).

if the leaks are right the newer gpu for 4k gaming are going to blow the older gpu out of the water as the newer gpu going to have a 4096 bit bus and a lot more ram. this let them move more data per clock cycle over the older gpu.

Do we have any indication of when Pascal will be released? I saw late Q2 but I've also heard rumors of delays to late 2016 or early 2017.

First off, that's a great price for a 980, but would a pair of 980s (SLI) be better, even in a price/performance perspective over the next 14/16nm GPUs from either vendor said to be coming soon(tm)? Honestly, we don't know, and won't until we see honest 3rd party reviews, not just PR releases.

Both camps will have processors that beat the 980 (and TI) so: If you weren't getting such a good deal I would have recommended to go with a 'tide-me-over' solution of a 970 or 390 until the mathematician or the star comes out, then make a decision. As it is, you'll still make good money selling the 980 if you want to go with the next node, or be well poised to grab a second 980.
