Best CPU/Motherboard combo for $650

Like the title says, I'm looking for help finding the best cpu/motherboard for $650.
I'm going to be mostly gaming, but I will also be using my pc to encode/edit videos and edit pictures.

I do know I want to go with Intel rather than Amd but, I'm not sure if I should go with the x99 platform or the z170, nor am I sure what CPU will give me the best bang for the buck.

Any help you guys give me is greatly appreciated.

On paper the x99 with haswell-e will give you the most, but I wouldn't say it is really worth it. Thr i7-6700k with a good z170 is most likely the best choice and invest the rest of the money into some other part which will make more of a difference.

I agree with gingerbread a z170 and a 6700k is the best choice, unless you will be doing some heavy rendering and cpu intensive tasks that use a lot of cores it the better option the x99
