I have found some very helpful information on this site, but can't quite find my exact answer. I apologize if it's answered anywhere and I just didn't find it.

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card so it's VR headset ready. I have heard that the GTX 970 with blower style will work for some systems. Will it work with mine? Do I have to upgrade my power supply? Will it work at all or is there another option that's better? I have put all sorts information below following the forum's guidelines.

Approximate Purchase Date: March 12, 2013

Budget Range: Up to $600

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming - Graphics Editing - Internet

Are you buying a monitor: No (I already have a Nice monitor)

Parts to Upgrade: Graphics Card, Maybe the Power Supply, Maybe the Ram

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon

Location: Portland, Oregon

Parts Preferences: Nvidia gtx 970 if possible (I don't think anything better will work with the case) (also how do I tell if it's a blower style since I have heard those will work for the case better)

Overclocking: No interest (I don't want to burn my system out early)

SLI or Crossfire: Unknown

Your Monitor Resolution: Full HD 1920 x 1080 at 240 Hz - LED Back-lit - 24" widescreen - Active 3D compatible - PlayStation 3d Display

Current PC Specs:
Alienware X51 Built To Order
Intel Core i7-3770 3.4GHz (8MB Cache) with Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost Technology 2.0
8GB (2 X 4GB) Dual Channel DDR3 up to 1600MHz
1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
1TB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200RPM) 32MB Cache
Windows 10 OS
Single Drive: 8X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
DW1506 Wireless-N WLAN Half Mini-Card
330W External Power supply

Concerns: I want the graphics card to fit into the case, be able to run VR Headsets, be able to cool properly, and make sure it works with my 330W external power supply.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I want my PC to be able to handle HTC's VR when it comes out.

Solution
330w PSU? No luck there.
Video cards chew through power. im surprised that the 660 works. Are you sure its 330?

I think youre better off flogging the whole thing on ebay and starting over with an atx or mini itx build. Theres always compatibility issues with proprietary systems. I avoid them like the plague

Yep that's the system Dell build and sent me. It's the Alienware X51. Everything runs cool and the whole tower is smaller.
