guys, I am having trouble. I want to get i7 6700k, but if i choose on gettin a i5 6600k it will be more likely that i will buy my rig. I7 is bit of expensive but i am so curious about that 0.5hz difference can be felt... please say something to make me get i5 :D I will be playing more likely mmorpg i.e. Blade and Soul or Skyforge.

As I said earlier, CPU will impact FPS very little.
Many MMOs are single threated and will not take advantage of i7s or recent i5s.
I still play Planetside 2 (massively multiplayer) using my i5 2500k and GTX 960 in my second rig with plenty of FPS (around 60).

The main difference between these processors is that the i7 is hyperthreaded, which will not make a difference in most games, and is clocked slightly higher. The higher clock can be remedied by a light overclock on the 6600k.

For the love of all that is good, do not try a big overclock on the stock cooler. If you're going to OC, get a good aftermarket cooler. Hyper212 Evo would be the base level to look at, also look at the Cryorig H7 or H5 (for a big one).

I have Thermaltake Contac 16, which i believe is enough as a cooler.

It depends entirely on the programs you use. Last time I looked in to auto rendering, most were single threaded apps so the i5 would be just fine. I'd recommend to look at the programs you know you're going to use, and the ones you'd like to be able to use and see if any of them benefit from multi threading. If they don't then there's no point to the i7, if they do then the i7 may be something to consider.

Hard to say, all the comparisons I've seen have been with the Contact 21 and 30. You're going to need a cooler either way since the k series chips don't come with a stock cooler. I'd double check with Thermaltake that it'll work with either the 6600k or 6700k chips.

Thanks to everyone who replied this thread been helpful a lot.

TT16 supports TDP up to 100 watt so i5 is 91 tdp, i guess it should be fine, and i change my cooler alter on. right now all i need is to get the main components at its best performance :)

It sounds like it'll be a fun rig with either the i5 or i7. Good luck with the build!

You could literally take 2nd or 3rd gen i5 for gaming and you would never feel the difference in 80% of games.
As long as you have 4 physical cores and at least 2 threads (virtual cores), it's plenty for most games.

The GPU makes all the difference in the world, no the CPU.

Sometimes, but not always. It depends on if the game is primary CPU or GPU dependent. I finally upgraded from my old rig because my AMD APU with integrated graphics (HTPC) was putting out a better FPS than my i7 920 with a 670GT. All the parts matter in a build.

However I will not be mainly playing single player games, and MMO games has different features than single player games as far as i know, so i think 970 will be enough for both types of games but i5 i deeply hope will be enough for MMOs as well

When in doubt, research the game/program. Most games, even MMO's are still single threaded.

That video posted above confused me a bit, is there suppose to be that much of FPS gap between those 2 processors?
