I currently own the i7 920 Bloomfield at 2.66GHz and have the Biostar Tpower X58 board. I wish to overclock the processor to at least 3.5 GHz no more than 4GHz due to cooling but i cant understand how the biostar BIOS works as it is very confusing and I have never overclocked before. Does anyone know how to do this and could give me a list of all the settings needed. Thanks

1st Gen X58 processors overclock a little differently.

You pretty much use the BCLK rather then the multiplier, and you have to deal with the memory frequency matching the BCLK at all times as well.

CPU:
133x20= 2.66Ghz

memory:
133x8 = 1066
133x10 = 1333
133x12 = 1600

This should get you to roughly 3.5Ghz:

So for starters, drop the memory multiplier low so that your ram shows up as 1066 (you can go as low as x6 to make it work). Adjust BCLK up to 175 or so.

You'll want to increase your CPU core voltage a little. If you have a G0 Stepping processor (check the box, otherwise you'll have to look at the CPU's label on the heatspreader) it won't take much past 1.2 volts or so. If you have one of the other steppings, you may need to...

Couple of other minor voltages you can play with. Read more here:

I tried increasing the BCLK to 160 therefore 160x20 = 3.2GHz. I then increased the Cpu core voltage to 1.2 volts just to make sure it was enough. When i ran CPU-Z it was clocked at 2.9GHz??
