ASUS Maximus VIII Hero XMP Profile Issues.

Hi! Today i enabled the XMP profile in the BIOS of my Maximus VIII Hero motherboard, and when i started the PC up again i noticed while dragging my different program windows around they were stuttering and i thought that quite weird, i then started up a game and noticed that it was stuttering more than it should, like it was stuttering all over the place. And the only thing i could think of that i had changed was the XMP profile. I looked in the Windows Event Viewer and checked for Errors, but none were to be found. I also tried checking the GPU/RAM/CPU usage and temps while gaming, but it was exactly as normal. So i turned it off. And then everything started working normally again. Which i thought was even weirder. So i then enabled the XMP profile again (just enabling it, not changing any of the settings.) just to find the same issues again. So i have now turned off the XMP profile and set it to "Manual" and set the RAM speed myself.

But what i wonder is, how could the XMP profile cause something like this? Is it normal or should i be worried?

My PC Specs:
GTX 980 EVGA
i7 6700K (Stock)
16GB 2666Mhz Corsair Vengeance
ASUS Maximus VIII Hero Motherboard
EVGA 850W G2 80+ Gold PSU
120GB Samsung 850EVO SSD (Windows Installed here)

Solution
I would think you are OK, might keep an eye out for BIOS updates where they might get a correction in, but if manual is fine then you should be also, might even be able to tighten up the timings

Yes, i indeed have the latest BIOS update. Is there anything else i can check? Btw, this is on a fresh Windows 8.1 install. And i have installed all of the needed motherboard drivers from ASUS website. And also installed all available Windows Updates.

Well, i could just run the Manual setting :p I was just wondering if there could be anything wrong with any of my components because of this :/ But you are saying i should not worry then? Because the "Manual" setting where i set the RAM speed myself works just fine :p

I am having a very similar problem. Changing settings manually with the memory didn't seem to help.

Here's my current equipment setup:

- ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming/AURA LGA 1151 Intel Z170
- EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW GAMING ACX 3.0
- Intel Core i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151
- G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
- Acer XB270HU Abprz Black 27" 144Hz WQHD Widescreen LED Backlight LCD G-SYNC Gaming Monitor
- Antec 750W PSU from previous build

Someone on another forum recommended bumping the frequency down to 2800 with stock timing and voltage and see if it works. If not, start to step up the voltage.

For what it's worth, my system and game runs fine if I leave the memory at 15-15-15-35 and 2133 although the specs are 16-18-18-38 and 3200.
