CPU gaming history

I'm too young to remember did CPUs back in the days, like 10-15 years ago struggle with gaming or were they like now, buy a better one, have no problem running games for 5 years.

Games are always made for the CPU's of the time. 15 years ago a good midrange CPU and GPU could run most any game available at the time fine.

Bottlenecking of the video cards didn't seem to be as much of an issue as it is today, likely because of the push to higher resolutions. Processors went obsolete at about the same pace as today, meaning, the higher end parts not becoming obsolete as quickly.
