when I tried Netgear readySHARE vault backup. It took forever, more than 48 hrs, still processing batch 25 or something. Growing impatient, I unplugged from N600 USB port. My BAD!! when I reconnect, WNDR3700v4 (on N600) readSHARE did not recognize the drive. I safely removed it and connected to PC USB port. Now it asked do you want to FORMAT it? So I guessed that its NTFS root directory might be messed up. Downloaded Recuva free and deep scanned it; recovered 58 files which mostly seem to be root directory and below into folder (like Recuva recovery) on another drive. I tried to copy and paste to the SYSTEM I: drive, but nothing happens. Before attempting REFORMAT I: drive, which might rewrite on the same tracks, I need to ask you all. Is that the logical step to take?
Humbly with eyes open wide,

FYI, my DT is home built with AMD A4-3400 APU 2.69 Ghz with 8 GB, running Win7 SP1 HP 64 bits with 250 GB SSD as C: drive;
WLAN is based on Netgear N600 (WNDR3700v4)
LT is old but still working Toshiba Satellite

Try this:
1. Click start, go to Control Panel, then Device Manager
2. Right-click “USB Mass Storage Device”, and select “Uninstall”
3. Unplug the Flash Drive and wait a few seconds
4. Plug it back in
5. Windows will give you the same “disk not formatted” error - don't worry...
6. Do not format the drive – click cancel
7. Then safely remove hardware (like you would normally)
8. Remove the flash drive, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.
9. Now that it has been “safely removed”, Windows should give you a message saying “do you want to Scan and Fix” – Click the “Scan and Fix” button.
10. Check “Automatically fix file system errors” and “Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors”
11. Click “Start” to start the scan, wait for it to complete…
Good luck!

Thanks for your prompt reply and suggestion! Unfortunately, it did not work. Any new suggestion?
First, I discovered that my USB Mass Storage was E:\ drive, which I applied your suggested steps as reported below. While SYSTEM I: drive was a root of SSD which was partitioned to C: and D: for DT.
When I tried the aforementioned steps, it returned with
E:\ is not accessible
Data error (CRC)
After steps 1-8, it never asked step 9, but continued to ask FORMAT?, which I cancelled.
I also tried Seagate's fix program, which returned S.M.A.R.T error with BAD condition, asked create image, etc.
but it requires another MS to create that image, and there's not enough space unless I try higher compression.
I can try testDisk next with little hope. Do you recommend a better approach?
