Hey guys!

Brought up my 5 years old gaming laptop again. I bought a SSD (Samsung 840 EVO 120GB) and tried to install it. However the BIOS wont recognize it, i got no clue on why..
So far it seems like it works with ANY hdd i connect, but SSD still no luck.

The HDDs i've tried with so far are (all were successful):
  • ■ 2.5" WD Scorpio 120GB
    ■ 2.5" WD Black 500GB
What i've tried to the SSD are:
  • ■ GPT unallocated
    ■ GPT allocated
    ■ MBT unallocated
    ■ MBT allocated

Solution
Hey there again, Croise!

I'd advise you to try connecting the SSD to another computer and see how and IF it will be recognized there. It's possible that the drive itself is faulty which would explain why you can't get it recognized. Since it's brand new, you should be able to send an RMA request to its manufacturer's customer support or the reseller's and get a replacement product from them. If you don't have access to another PC/laptop, you can also try using a SATA-to-USB cable or a docking station and check if you can, at least, get the SSD recognized externally.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hey there, Croise!

I'd second what @corroded mentioned and check your laptop manufacturer's website for any BIOS/firmware updates. I'd also check the SATA controller and chipset drivers and reinstall them from the website as well. You can also try resetting BIOS from the BIOS settings and see if that will help. I'd also check for any AHCI driver you have available for your laptop's model.
Have you tried the SSD in another computer? I'd advise you to do so and see if it will get properly detected there.

Keep us posted with the troubleshooting & good luck! :)

EC: 1.00.04
to:
BIOS: 1.01.14
EC: 1.00.13

And still got the same issue, its still not being shown in BIOS :/
