Hi there!

I have a Essence STX II 7.1 Sound Card that I bought a while back. Never bothered using its Headphones output jack and now I got a pair of very good quality headphones.

Now first time I tried to use Headphones output and its giving a VERY noisy buzzing sound. I also hear a very noticeable "click" sound coming from the sound card itself (from pc case) when changing the settings in software manager from 2 channels to headphones to enable the headphones.

I have cleaned up the board and headphone jack, also changed the pci-e slot but its still there. I have tried with another old headphones I had and the noise is still there, which means the problem is with the card and not with the headphones.

Using "test" gives me extremely low volume of sound that I can not even hear it properly but the buzzing noise is very loud and up all the time as long as headphones are connected.

Is the sound card faulty or am I doing something wrong to set it up?

Thanks!

How long ago did you buy the sound card? Usually the ports withing a sound suffer from corrosion but I doubt you bought it off second hand and I doubt it never received care/maintenance.

...am I doing something wrong to set it up?
To establish that point it'd be a good idea to pass on your full systems specs inclusive of your OS, audio equipment and your peripherals connected. In the mean time, have you made sure you've installed the latest drivers after uninstalling it? Is your BIOS and remaining device drivers up to date? How did you have you sound card connected prior to receiving the headphones and putting it to operation?
