I have a amd phenom tm ii x4 960t processor and an ati radeon hd 4200 graphics card, I don't know much about computers but I want to run American truck simulator what do I need to upgrade

Yes, Ati 4200 is very outdated. I would recommend getting no less than r7 360 or gtx 750. Ensure your Motherboard supports pcie 16x cards and your power supply can deliver at least 300w.

Yeah I have 8gb of ram what graphics card would you recommend? I've tried to play and the game is really laggy is that due to the graphics card?

how do I make sure my motherboard is compatible and the only way to check the power supply would be to open the cover right?
