I've just acquired a new WD Green 2TB WD20EZRX. Of course it is meant for storage and there is where my OneDrive folder is going to be. However, I got concerned about some people saying the intelliPark technology is set, by default, to stop spinning at 8 seconds of innactivity, so people apply a tweak to reset to 300 seconds (5 minutes of innactivity). The problem is OneDrive and Dropbox often (almost continuously) recheck the folder for modifications, and write some cache file to it all the time.

Should I apply the tweak or I'm entirely wrong about my concern?

Thanks!

Hey there, Da Rossa!

I'd recommend you do a warranty check on your newly acquired WD Green. We merged our mainstream products to the WD Blue brand, so the WD Green is now under the 5,400 RPM-class HDDs with up to 6 TB capacity variations.
As for the IntelliPower feature of these particular HDD models, it's simply a fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate, and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance.
I don't think your model will encounter such issues, though, so I'd not recommend you apply any tweaks beforehand because it's possible that it might not work.
For more info, I'd advise you check our KB articles that will give you more insight on these HDD features as well as the specific models where WDIDLE3 works:
The S.M.A.R.T Attribute 193 Load/Unload counter keeps increasing on a SATA 2 hard drive
The S.M.A.R.T Attribute 193 Load/Unload counter continue to increase for the WD RE2-GP SATA II hard drives

Hope it helps you. Keep me posted if you have more questions! :)

Hi SuperSoph, thanks for your kind response.
Oddly enough, my SN is being flagged as invalid.

OMG. So the selling of counterfeit hard drives is a rather common practice around the globe, especially in third-world countries like Brazil?

edit: the customer support answered this:

The serial number you provided is for an OEM hard drive that was either included in your system at the time you purchased your computer or it was purchased in a non-Western Digital retail box. You can verify the serial number to ensure that it was read correctly. If the drive is still showing as an OEM unit, either the system manufacturer or the place of purchase is responsible for the warranty of the hard drive. You need to contact your place of purchase for warranty support.
