Where do I go from here?

I have a gaming PC which I've put a lot of time and effort into here are the specs:

Intel i7 6700k 4.8ghz 1.35v + 105H Corsair AIO
EVGA 980 SC ACX 2.0
ASUS z170 Dexlue
4x4GB HyperX Fury 2600mhz
2 x 240GB HyperX Fury SSD
1TB HDD
750W PSU EVGA G2
Corsair 750D

Corsair K70 RGB
Corsair VOID Wireless RGB
Corsair Sabre RGB Optical

SP120, AF120, SP140, AF140 corsair fans around the case.

I currently game on 1080p, however I've got my eyes on a Asus ROG 27" 1440p G-sync 144hz.

I know my PC can run 1440p because I borrowed my mates IPS 1440p, not sure what model it was, I believe it was acer. I play BF4 smooth at 1440p on 125FPS if I turn down AA.

So where do I go after the monitor? Pascal is looking appealing, but would it not be worth getting another 980? But I know sli isn't support by all games, so it might be worth just getting a Pascal card. Although I do have an empty m.2 slot so a samsung evo 950 might be possible. Opinions are appreciated.

As for budget, there is none, I am 17 years old in an apprenticeship which I make a decent wage, so no bills for me ;). I don't render or do encoding so a 5930k isn't really needed unless I wanted to be a performance junky.

PS: my build is mainly black and white if you haven't gathered.

Solution
A backup mechanism. and then just enjoy it until you can't enjoy it, then upgrade.

Personally with a 970 (on 1440p 144Hz Gsync), i'm looking at post pascal before an upgrade, maybe even the one after that, although a sneaky SLI might be an option.

The urge to upgrade my friend. To increase gaming experience to be honest.

Because at the moment I know my 980 is capable of any game, apart from a couple on 1440p. So I want to eliminate that bottleneck so any game in the next 2 or 3 years Ill be able to play on 1440p 60fps+ (within reason, games such as DayZ SA and Ark unoptimised as hell.)

May your temps be low, and your fps be high.

Have not thought about a backup... nice idea!

I have my important data on SSD which are more durable than HDD so I never thought about the whole back up thing.

I remember seeing something on youtube where someone had a cloud server on his network, and when he would shutdown his pc a script would back up his data to the cloud server incrementally. So this could be something to get installed.

Yeah 970's are great I was going to get one, until someone in my office got one, so I had 1+ them ;).
