My speakers are working but my headphones aren't? They work with my phone, so why not with a computer?

I am using a Dell computer with an Optiplex 790 tower. They are plugged in to the tower.

They're attached to the computer. Nobody else in my class has had this problem yet, and we all have the speakers attached to our computers. Also there's no way to detach them.
(btw, i didn't mean to select this as the best solution xD)

You likely have to tell it what's connected then. In your 'hidden icons' of your taskbar, do you have "Dell Audio" as an option? You're likely set to default to speakers, but you can tell it within the settings that youve connected/want to run headphones.

Nope, I think it's deactivated. It's a school computer.
