How long can GPU last without working fan?

Hello! My brother's Radeon 7850 was running really slowly and he finally figured out that the fan had stopped working. I was wondering if the card fried, he ran the computer for a decent amount of time without the gpu fan working at all? He bought a new one and gave it to me so I am trying to figure out if it is worth the money to get a new knock-off fan from China or to just get a new card for myself.

Do you know how hot the card got? If it didn't throttle itself (slow itself down to prevent damage to gpu core) than it probably did serious thermal damage. If it did throttle and avoided getting completely destroyed it probably will still affect its performance. If you have the budget to replace it you may want to, but trying a cheap fan doesn't hurt if you mount it correctly, try opening the case, cooling it down with a strong house fan and try running something. It is possible it "fried" though.

I`m sure you know that you can buy a replacement fan for the 7850 card your brother gave you.
It`s still a capable graphics card.

So for a few pounds, buy a replacement fan off ebay for the 7850 card of the right size and dimensions.
It`s always nice to have a spare card just in case.
And you could keep it as a spare, even if you chose to buy a brand new card anyway.
