This is for a gaming machine that will run two monitors both at 1920x1080 144hz refresh. Which one will benefit me most in the long run? Is the more expensive 980 worth the slight performance increase?

Current Build

RAM: G.SKILL 16GB 1866

Do you mean the 980ti?
because if you do i would either go for the amd for cost effectiveness or wait until nvidia releases their new paschal gpus due to come out later this year, the 980ti is still a fantastic option and if you want to go for it for the extra features and the fact that most game devs are partnering with nvidia nowadays mainly because of the technology they offer and the fact...

Save for a 980ti, or get a 390x and save some money, its a great value card. The 980, at its price isn't worth it imo, the 980ti on the other hand performs as well as a Titan X and is an amazing value if you can afford $150 more, and if you are already considering a $500 gpu, when the 980ti for $150 more is a much greater value. Just my opinion of course, but I've done a fair bit of research, if you take a look at any benchmarks/comparisons from popular tech Youtubers you will come to the same conclusion. People will say you could wait for Pascal, and you can, personally I didn't wait, rather have my performance now but it is the more practical/conservative approach. Goodluck with your decision.

I meant the 980 in my original post. So I should just ignore the 980 altogether? It would be better to buy a 970 and overclock it? Also when are these new paschal cards likely to come out? I would honestly wait to buy a 980 ti if they will be dropping in price over the next couple of months.

I have a gtx 750 ti right now. It can handle 60+ fps but not on high/ultra settings. I play a few games on lowest possible settings just to get better fps.

Edit: Games I play: H1Z1, WoW, Star wars battlefront, CSGO, Witcher 3, etc

My cpu is overclocked to 4.4ghz

Edit: Will I see a decent increase to performance overclocking the 750 ti?

I just upgraded from the a 780 to the 980ti, I don't want to wait for Pascal and I'm very happy with my choice. I have a 4k monitor and the 980ti handles most games really nicely on it in 4k. Any lower resolutions and the 980ti will destroy it. Coming from a 750ti, you will be very pleased. I will wait until Pascal drops in price months or a year after release like I did with this card. Pseronally though, I'm content with my purchase I want to be happy with what I am playing NOW, not waiting for the next generation. For me it is the experience in this moment, if Pascall was releasing within a month I would've waited, but it isn't

When you do make sure you get a top tier card, Gigabyte Xtreme is great uses Gauntlet so they tested the best gpu cores (980tis) they received and saved the best for these cards. Also the MSI TwinFrozr looks and reviews great. I also knw Asus has a higher tier 980ti but when I looked at it the cost was around $800, so I went with the GB card. Goodluck, the 980ti is worth it because Pascal isn't going to come out until probably August or after.
