gtx 560 ti and gtx 970

so me and another friend both got great computers for christmas.
but ive been wondering because my friend most the time has a lot more frames then i do in games. i want to know why they get more when i have a gtx 970 and they have a 560 ti.

That shouldn't happen, but here are a couple of things to verify :

-Is the resolution the same for both of you? A higher resolution means a lower FPS, so if you're doing 1080p and he is at 900p or 720p, then there's the reason.
-Are your graphics settings the same? Make sure they are identical.
-Did you enable Vsync? If you did, disable it.
-Make sure your display cable is connected to the GPU ports and not to the motherboard's.
-In the Nvidia Control Panel, make sure that PhysX are handled by the GPU and not the Integrated graphics.
-Use GeForce Experience to make sure you have all the latest drivers.
