Having a really hard time nailing the culprit(s) of this issue. The following issue keeps occurring on my widows 7 studio(work) machine. The computer is kept offline except for updates and is very clean in general.

I first noticed the issue over a year ago and it happened a handful of times and then went back to normal. Didn't happen for over a year and is now happening again some of the symptoms is as follows.

- startup goes from being extremely fast to super slow with HDD light staying solid.

- when Windows starts if HDD light stays solid sometimes the mouse will completely freeze

- for some reason when this's issue occurs iTunes does not open

- when it happens network connections does not connect - also the shortcut for my network connection acts funny when right clicking to enable/disable.

- one of my cd drives does not appear in my computer or devices.

- sometimes completely freezes on startup and I have to hard reset numerous times. If it goes to repair disk nothing happens I need to restart where it goes to start Windows normally which usually fixes the issue for the next session.

After this it will run flawlessly. When it does run it runs great.

I have tested the hard drives and checked for error both using Windows and sea tools - all looks ok. I've disconnected certain devices to eliminate them.. The issue occurs at random times and I'm so confused as to what it may be but it's really holding me back from work.

Does any of this sound familiar ? If anyone can help before I take it to get looked at I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

99.9% sure its not a virus or malware.. I do check and run sophisticated checks at times like this.

Noticed many errors here and trying to make sense of them is another thing.. I did see some NTFS error but only on a backup drive thats not connected usually. There was some errors related to some music hardware/sftware combo i use but nothing specific, I had disconnected to see if problem persists and it does.

No.

No it doesn't seem to be exactly power related.

Really trying to avoid that as the system runs deep with plugins etc.. I mean its not end of world but a real PITA. The worst part is it runs so well when it it comes on problem free. which is most of the time, its only when it has this issue and then needs to restarted until works. very strange.

Whats funny is I do keep a clone, I keep a fresh install clone.. Pretty much just windows tweaked to studio spec. And then a fully loaded clone that i UPDATE every few months.. I recently deleted older version to save space on one of the back up drives..

Update: The guys were not able to reproduce the issues as of yet, they updated the bios and changed the order to put the c drive first on the boot list.. So either that sorted the issue or else its something to do with the hardware I have connected.. I have a few different USB extenders etc because the computer is in iso box in machine closet. could be one of them causing the issue possibly..

Somebody mentioned a hard drive. I worked on a system a few years back that displayed a lot of these same issues. After much troubleshooting, which included a clean OS install that appeared to fix the problem, it turned out to be a failing Hard Drive. All symptoms were intermittent and the system would often run fine.
