I have a Acer Aspire M5100, with a RS690M03 motherboard. There was a Athlon 64 x2 4800+ Brisbane in it, and I found myself a 5200+ Brisbane, but that newer one doesnt work. When I install it, the fan slowly gets faster, and the CPU temperature raises until the system turns itself off. I tried to find a BIOS update but couldn't find any, even on the Acer website. I have no idea what to do now, except to add a thousand fans in it, does anyone have an idea?

Solution
1) You may check the acer site to see you can find the cpu support list. May sure the 5200+ is in the list, because either 4800+ and 5200+ has the 65W or 89W version. If the 4800+ you had is 65w, and the new 5200+ is the 89w, and MB may not support it. http://www.cpu-world.com/Related_CPUs/Socket%20AM2_K8.html
2) Maybe the 5200+ cpu has problem. Double check it in other pc.

When you update the cpu on OEM PC, 50-50% chance you need to update the BIOS. If you can't find the BIOS ( usually they will not provide the BIOS for the old pc), and the pc does not work with the new cpu, nothing you can do. Either use the old cpu or buy the whole new pc.
