I want to get an affordable game controller for my PC. It needs to work on Windows & Linux Mint. A basic wired Xbox 360 controller seems like a good cheap option. However, I've heard mixed things about the d-pad on the controller. It looks good, but I'm never actually tried a Xbox 360 controller.

I need a good d-pad since I'm going to use it for some platformers (Dust, Trine) and fighting games (KOF, Skullgirls, Street Fighter IV).

I'm coming back to gaming after a long hiatus. If I get really into fighting games I might eventually get a fight stick/fight pad, but for now I just want an affordable controller that will let me try things out.

So is the d-pad on the Xbox 360 controller good? Is it at least okay? Are there better controllers that I should be looking at? Thanks.

Solution
Xbox 360 controllers and there Dpad are very good indeed to play windows games with.
Nice and sharp and responsive.

Good eight way movement.

This question is like asking "I need something to control my computer... is a mouse good?" The Xbox 360 controller is the go to for PC games. They work well with almost any game and can easily be used. Also If you buy one I recommend an Afterglow third party one as they are a little bit cheaper and look really cool. I've been using one and have not run into any problems ;)
