Best bet is to remove everything effected and look for residue and clean it with contact/electrical cleaner.
This guy has a good general description on what to do and how to do it.

The idea is the rice will help pull any moisture out of the parts. The biggest part of the equation is what exactly was spilled? If it was just water, and you unplugged it soon enough you may be able to just wait for it to dry and be ok. If it was something like soda then it could leave behind a sticky mess that could short out parts. If thats the case, in addition to the rice trick you'd want to get some electrical cleaner and go over any part of the components that were spilled on.
it was soda, most of it spilled on the side of the case but some of it spilled on the rams, and around and maybe on the processors fan, and i think a little bit got into the power supply but im not sure
