Hi forum community, would appreciate your thoughts,

Here is my system's specs:

CPU: i5 6600k
Cooler: CM hyper 212x
MB: ASUS maximus VIII ROG ranger
RAM: Kingston Fury 2400 Mhz 8gb
HDD: WD blue 1TB
SSD: Samsung 850 evo 250gb
GPU: GTX 970
PSU: Corsair RM 650i
OS: Windows 10 64bit home

My recently built PC is experiencing shutdowns when gaming. Strangely enough, when I stress test it using Aida64's stability test, it has no problems and can go for a very long time.

Dota 2 causes my pc to shutdown within the first few minutes so I can't play it at all. Sometimes it shutdowns even when I am picking my hero. Crysis shutdowns within the first 10 mins and Skyrim and bioshock infinite has shutdowns on and off. Rainbow six siege and csgo runs fine no problems.

I actually thought it may be an os issue, so I reset my PC but same shutdown issues.

Any help would be appreciate.

Hi,
I have tested every components in my pc (swapping with others)... the culprit is indeed the motherboard. Go change the Mobo you'll be fine again.

When you run the stress tests, are you only stressing your CPU? Or have you done it for both your GPU and CPU?

I'm guessing this is an automcatic shutdown command that's happenning, because one component is getting too hot, and your motherboard's safety features are turning your computer off to prevent damage to your components.

What's the airflow like in your case?

Thanks for your reply. I stress everything possible: CPU, FPU, Cache, memory, local disks, GPU and the system runs algood. The temps of the CPU and GPU are also fine during stress testing - CPU is kept under 50 celsius, graphics card at 75-80. I think my airflow is good, PSU is modular etc.

Thanks again for your support. I just went through it but it looks quite confusing and I'm not sure what to look for. I have always set in on default settings but still having the shutdown issues.

Hey, sorry to hear that your PC is also suffering problems. We payed a lot of money for this system so it definitely is frustrating. My plan is to take it to a PC shop tomorrow and let them diagnose it. I will post up what they find out within a week.

Hi, I am sorry it has taken over a week to reply. I tried running the system with another GTX 970 - still shutdowns. Also tried another CPU - still shutdowns. Took out the motherboard and sent it to the supplier - they tested it and replaced it. I have yet to try it out though because I am at Uni and my PC is at home so I will not close the thread yet.

Hi,

My rig - Witcher 3 causes constant shutdown, while MKX, GTAV, Ryse son of Rome and my other games don't.

I manage to bring my PC back to the shop to test it together with the guys there. To my surprise it did not shut down at all, normally Witcher 3 will shut it down within the first 10 mins. The guys recommended me to try plugging in my pc direct to the wall socket instead of socket bar extender.

I tried back home plugging it directly to the wall socket in my living room and manage to play witcher 3 about 10 mins then it shuts down again. However when I move it to my bedroom socket, it does not shutdown anymore for 1 hour ++ until i was tired...

Running it on my second day now and 1+ hours gaming still running smooth. I guess in my case prob. the current I'm getting from the wall socket triggers the shutdown. Maybe old or damaged wirings.

Hope you'll fix yours soon.

Hi again. There have been no shutdowns so far with the new mb.
I would be skeptical about the faulty power socket issue. The people from the pc shop said the same thing so I brought my pc to my friend's house and still shutdowns.

I am interested, the only components I have that are the same are the GPU and the Motherboard. I have the same exact issue, ran all the stress tests, temps are fine. I would love to see if anyone had a solution?
I've had shutdowns with
-Fallout 4
-Lego Harry Potter (what?!)
-GTA V
-TF2
and today We Happy Few.
If this is a motherboard problem that can be covered by a warranty or something I'd love to know. I'm so frustrated.

Hi, I got my motherboard replaced about 6 months ago and there have been no shutdown issues since. Your motherboard is covered under warranty. Get your computer shop to send it back to where they got it for testing and they should swap it for you when a fault is found.

The other pain I had to deal with was calling microsoft to verify my windows when you boot up a new mb.

Any questions let me know.
Kind regards,
Euwin
