I don't do any gaming what so ever, I just need a laptop to take to work to maybe edit some videos while I have free time. There are these two models:

I was trying to keep the budget below $1400 with laptop and geeksquad being bought together. I would just be doing Adobe Creative Suite on a machine.

My question is why do AMD have such a bad rap? I mean I can get a used Y700 for about $650 with warranty a lot cheaper than anything with Intel on it. I understand that you get what you pay for, but with the other machine having an i7 is this a no brainer when trying to compare them or would the AMD work fine. I don't do any kind of 4k video, but would like to do After Effects when using the laptop.

Could someone break it down about which machine over time would help me get the most out of my money or are their other options within that price range from Best Buy? Like I said I don't do any kind of gaming, this would be solely for web and video editing.

One more thing, is it possible to upgrade these machines to have a 500 GB or 1 TB ssd?

Solution
Video editing relies mostly on amount of available cores and their processing power, available ram and speed of disks. In this case the intel wins on both fronts on the CPU end, having more and faster cores in its CPU. AMD hasn't got a bad rep, their CPU's are good, but intel's CPU's are more powerful and have better power management. AMD CPU's are about 2 generations behind at the moment.

For you needs, I think you would be best off with an i7 6700hq based laptop, bestbuy has several of those in stock.
