My computer is very slow at startup. I don't have many programs that start automatically. When I open Steam or Skype, they stop working and I have to re-open them until it doesn't happen. Once I have started everything up the computer is not as slow anymore.. What can cause this? Programs stops working and that it's only slow at first when I start up. (5 mins then it's over).

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely, Torgrim

I also think your hard drive is failing. Maybe you should look at buying a new one, and maybe even an SSD (I recommend the Samsung 250G EVO). That one fits in laptops and in desktops. If you want to buy a new HDD (slower but cheaper per capacity), you'll need a 2.5 inch one if you've got a laptop, and a 3.5 inch one...

run malware bytes and hitman pro to make sure your system is clean. run ccleaner to clean up the hard drive and registry. use hdtune to read the hard drive smart warnings. in programs make sure there only one anti virus program running. also look for trogan software like search bars. if your anti virus is a few years old uninstall it and install one of the newer ones like avg or avast or bitdefender. use msconfig go to strt up tab turn everything off if the pc speeds up turn one thing on at a time and reboot when it slows down there your damaged program.
