I have a r9 290x already installed. I tried to add a r9 390 in the 2nd pci-e slot so I could crossfire the too but the amd drivers detected a problem and said the right drivers were not installed(worked fine with the r9 290x by itself). I switched the cards around and the r9 390 installed properly but now the r9 290x cant be detected in the 2nd pci-e slot. I did a scan in device manager, yet nothing shows up. I can get each card working individually, but not together.. I do the proper procedure, of completely deleting/wiping drivers and installing each card one at a time. I also checked my mobo manual and have the cards in the correct slots. Also to be clear the r9 390 was detected when in the 2nd pci-e slot, just amd drivers reported an issue, and would not open catalyst. Should I try the r9 390 in the 2nd slot again? What am I missing here? All help would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah I definitely have a r9 290x 8gb. I heard the 290, 290x, 390, and 390x could be crossfired. Can you crossfire a (x) card with a (non-x) card? I thought you could.

I guess im to oldschool, i only knew that you could crossfire the same card

Pretty sure the PSU won't handle those 2 gpus together but that should not be the problem. Try installing just the r9 290x in the 2nd slot to make sure it's working there, as soon as it is, install the r9 390 in the first slot and install the drivers of the r9 390.

I'll try that and report back later, gotta get some sleep first. Thanks for the suggestion Gingerbread
I thought I could get away with 850w for awhile. I don't think its the issue either.

I am sure that it is not the issue, when you get them to run and get a BSOD or the pc restarts, that's when the psu will be the issue.

I think your correct on that part. Thank you! Yet, now I have a more severe issue. I connected a cable into the ATX4P port on my motherboard, because the manual said this would help with stability when having multiple gpu's. I did this and on first boot the PC shorted out or something. Now it wont post, or boot up. It tries to and shut downs 1-2 sec later. I swapped psu's and it did the same thing, I unplugged things 1 at a time and tried to re-boot each time. Yet I get the same result. I now think the motherboard is fried/faulty. I'm going to check the gpu's on my Bro's PC to see if they got fried. I have no way to check my cpu, because I only have one compatible mobo. I hope nothing else is dead, but the mobo. The weird thing is the PC tries to boot up on its own. I plug the power cable into the psu, hit the psu switch, and the PC immediately tries to boot up, without me pressing the power button on the case. This situation sucks tho!

P.S.- I read somewhere that the crossfire only works in pci-e slot 1 and 2, when doing only 2 gpu's. Also the manual specifically stated that the 5820k should have crossfire gpu's in those slots. Not sure if its a necessity..
