Solution
Far cry 4

The min frames per second are better on even this older/slower i3 vs the fx 6300. That translates to smoother gameplay.

There aren't a lot of cpu benchmarks for ac unity, this article refers to the game being gpu bound more than cpu so either cpu would likely do alright.

Regardless of which cpu is used, they'll both be limited by the gtx 960 which is a mid range card. Settings may have to be turned down. As is usually the case, the 6 cores of the fx 6300 don't really make up for...

Far cry 4 just doesn't run on a dual core processor so the i3 is sort of out the window.
In my opinion the AMD is better because it will be able to cope with far cry 4 where as the i3 will not due to the amount of cores!

It's a shame really because the i3 will run better for other games and it is a newer and smaller processor where as the AMD is really outdated but due to far cry 4 not working on a dual core the AMD is what your going to have to go with unfortunately.

The good thing about the i3 is that you can always drop an i5 in there once you got a bit more cash.

The i3-6100 with a relatively good motherboard maintains 1080p@60fps in Far Cry 4. Perhaps It's worth considering.

just pick the cheapest then

in additional, running old game the i3 will perform better than fx
cuz i3 have faster single core performance
for latest game, some game may perform better on i3 and some game may perform better on fx

Dude, I've already said so you must be clueless the AMD if your not thinking about upgrading! If your not impressed my the help given on Tom's hardware do some actual research into yourself! I found the answer yesterday! AMD just in case you didn't see it earlier

This topic of 2-core/4-thread CPUs in Farcry4 has already been discussed in this forum quite a while ago:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2389831/cry.html

And if you want to compare the cpus alone you'll just have to go to a CPU-Comparation site:

As is usually the case, the 6 cores of the fx 6300 don't really make up for the lack of per core performance of intel cpu's including the i3's. That's disregarding any upgrade considerations.

How well you'll be able to run all AAA modern games with lower budget hardware may give mixed results. You're not going to get premium performance from low to mid range hardware.

We shouldn't try to impose a specific solution; the OP has to review all info that was provided and then make his own decision.

Agreed but there's no need for him to keep saying that he doesn't likeeley what we're telling him because it's not that hard to Google the performance that he will get from each CPU. There's this good website called YouTube that seems to have a lot of information.

Honestly I'd rather rely on trusted sites than YouTube. A site like the one that synfhul and I have suggested uses the same high-end GPU for all tests; therefore it makes it easier to compare CPUs. It also shows that on Far Cry 4, an i3 is faster than an FX-8350 running at 4.5 GHz. Other games like GTA V achieve different results; I would expect an overclocked FX-6300 to match or even possibly exceed the performance of the i3-4150 by a few FPS.
