CPU Cooler Upgrade For Dell Optiplex 780?

Solution
So.

Which chipset (LGA775, s1115, s2011 or s1150) and CPU are you using? For general info about your system download and run CPUz.

Dell is infamous for doing nonstandard cases, cooling, fans, motherboards and power supplies BUT some systems can easily be upgraded with off-the-shelf components.

A new HSF on the CPU and a case fan is a good investment if you have a higher-watt processor or if you want to try over-clocking. To monitor your system temps and voltages, give HWMonitor a try.

A higher-watt Core2 Quad with a decent clock speed might be worth investing in --- an older Core2 Duo, Pentium or Celeron, not-so-much.

You misunderstand, it is not the physical size of the cooler that is the problem, it is the holes drilled in the motherboard. It will not improve your system at all as you cant overclock a dell and they provide adequate cooling for all their offerings.
