Which GPU to go?

Hello, I will be building a new rig by the end of this summer. I always change my mind. In the meantime I wanna build a great knowledge of GPUs.

Here is 3 gpus.

MSI R9 390
Asus STRIX 970
MSI GTX980 < Well, This might be optional since the price I want to hear opinions.

I want to get one of these. I always get confused. I will be playing mostly MMORPGs. AS CPu I will get i7 6700k or at least i5 6600k. Thanks all

If you are building this at the end of summer wait until then to make your choice. Pascal is coming out this year, and we will have more solid information by then.

Pascal is Nvidias next generation of cards, this generation (the 970) is maxwell.
It should offer some substantial increases in performance.

There should still be offerings in the same price range, there always are.
However, currently our information on pascal is limited.

You can find more by googling nvidia pascal, but as you can see above, they arent saying much.

Thanks a lot! This is a refreshing news for me since I am looking for a rig which will hold me up for 2-3 years. New tech is always better. I hope the prince wont exceed 980s range.

But what if you had to choose between those 3 gpus I mentioned above. Which one you would go.

Between the 3, the 980 is too expensive for little performance gain.
970 at 1080p and below.
390 at 1440p and above (though the 970 with a respectable OC can match the 390 at 1440p)

There are more pros and cons youll hear, some to consider such as the power supply needed for each (500w vs 650w total), drivers (dont listen to this), etc.

Thanks a bunch. Since I cannot get any of these till the end of this summer, I guess it will be wiser to wait pascal gpus and decide according to it!

Oh yeah, at the end of summer (or whenever you are ready) post another thread. We should know alot more about pascal and its offerings then.
