HDMI Monitor to Display Port Graphic Cd

My 29" LG 29UM57 Monitor advertises 2560x1080 resolution, however the best I an get is 1920x1080 resolution; I am using HDMI to Display Port cable - my monitor has 2 (HDMI ports only), my graphics card support Display Port and DVI (only - no HDMI port) - the graphic care supports 2560x1080; It was suggest going HDMI to HDMI with a new graphic card would achieve 2560x1080 ...does this make sense?

I have a AMD Radeon HD 7450 Graphics Card (Display Port and DVI (only - no HDMI port)); It is housed in my new i7-4790 CPU@3.6GH w/ 24 GM RAM; Win 10 - what graphics card would you recommend - My Lg Monitor has only HDMI ports capable of 2560x1080 resolution , all I can get is 1920x1080 - thanks for asking and the time:)
