Keep the softwares intact even after a clean install - OS/software partition separation?

Hi

I am trying to find a smart solution to my smart idea. I have spent a lot of time searching the web and not even a single article is mentioning about my main issue.

I have a fresh installation of Win XP and I would like to separate the OS and the softwares I want to install. Graphics program, video editing program... And other work related programs that I would like to use.
Sure there are a lot of articles how to move your programs to another location or how to change the default location of program files directory. But the latter I believe is not so great since it may corrupt any updates or whatever which relies on the default location.

However, it is a time consuming task whenever I need to re-install Windows.
This is the second time in a relatively short period of time I have reinstalled Windows xp because it was getting real slow, and working even on the simplest task could take a long time.
I like XP and I dislike all the newer versions. And besides my computer is quite old now for win 10 anyways.

So the key feature is to have the software files independently from the same partition of the OS, when a re-install is necessary I do not have to re-install all the softwares again.

I am not sure what it will be like if I would chose to install a heavy software, say Adobe Photoshop. I believe some files will be stored in the user's documents on the OS partition, and if I would do a clean install then the software would be corrupted.

Solution
The registry basically is Windows.

If the licensing didn't cause issues, you would basically be installing a new copy of Windows then putting the old one back on. If it even worked.

Even if they are/were on a different partition, you'd still need to reinstall them.

When an application is installed, it make dozens (or thousands) of entries in the Registry and elsewhere.
You new OS knows nothing about that.

Some few applications will work. A LOT won't.
Some might 'work' for various values of success.

Hi all, thanks for your answers.
My hdd is already partitioned in two parts since long time back ago.

OK, so bare with me. How would it be like if I somehow backup the registry before I reinstall or repair windows and then place it back?
Before making a backup I would of course have to uninstalled unnecessary stuff and run a clean registry program or something.
