I have a 1.5TB WD Caviar external hard drive model no WD1502FAEX dated 14 May 2011.
It was unused for some time and when I tried to use it it does not power up. It is dead.
What can be done about this.
Can the date on it be retrieved.

Welcome to the community, tncmaher!

Unfortunately, since you can't get it to power up, then you should most definitely consider contacting a professional data recovery company for assistance. You can find WD's Data Recovery Partners worldwide on our official website and get in touch with the one closest to you. They are your best chance at getting any of your files back. Any data retrieving attempts by yourself would be rather risky.

Hope I was helpful. Best of luck!

Hello tncmaher,

I had a USB that contained a lot of important data. Sadly, I did not back it up and, you guessed it, it got crushed accidentally. The memory chip was largely intact but the pins to the controller and the controller were badly damaged. I live in Toronto and could not get anyone there to fix it or recover the data but I was referred to Leopold Hiersche who lives in Germany. He recovered all my data and my experience with him was fantastic - quick and courteous. Good luck!! Eddie
